Tournament Recap: Alamo 2015 paint contest

As I mentioned earlier, one of my favorite parts of being a TO is getting to add events that I want to see on the Grand Tournament scene.
Since 2011, I've hosted an individual painting contest at the Alamo - the only paint contest at a GT in the south. Mierce Miniatures agreed to sponsor the event for the fourth year in a row, and the winners get to take home a wicked trophy as well.
All the entries, after the jump!

Army in a Weekend challenge!

About six weeks back, Rob Phanulf from the Countercharge podcast reached out to the members of The Beer Phase and asked us if we wanted to take part in a little challenge. Follow the cut to see how I cranked out a 1000 point Herd force (which doubles as a 1498 gold Darklands force) in three days!

Workspace

In the past, a few people have asked what kind of setup I've got for my painting system. I thought that today I'd take a bit of time and show how I do my hobby/model work.
Shall we see what kind of goodies are inside?

Army Showcase: Avatar inspired Wood Elves

The year was 2010. Warhammer: 8th Edition had just come out. Avatar was wrecking the box office. I decided to combine the two. It's a Throwback Thursday edition of the Beer Waaaagh! #TBT

A look forward!

In today's post, Ryan discusses what you can look forward to on this blog in the weeks and months ahead.
A Texas sunrise. Not the drink, the actual one. With sun.

Thundertusk conversion

I was cleaning out my phone and found a couple of pictures of a project I did for my Ogres of Ulric - a wolf-headed Thundertusk. While there's no step-by-step, I thought I'd share them with you guys and expound a bit on the process I use when I'm converting models.

Shaaroc the Reviled

In this week's bonus post, Ryan goes back in time to March, when he painted Shaaroc the Reviled and then ignored the post for seven months. Now, in this remastered version with commentary, you can see how he did it!

Mierce Miscast Bags: Part 2

Last time Mierce offered Miscast bags, I couldn't resist and ended up picking up a couple. When they recently offered up more of them, how could I resist again? Spoiler alert: I couldn't. Follow the jump for a look at what was in my Norse, Albiann, and Norse Wings bags.

In this week's post, Ryan finally shows off how the Wolf-Vore sculpt ended up getting painted.

Darklands Battle Report: Brythoniaid vs. Khthones

Rather than a painting showcase this week, I've got another Darklands battle report for you! My regular sparring partner, David Sweatt, brings his Khthones against the matchup requested by the Darklands: Savage Hordes Kickstarter comments page - the Brythoniaid!
Can the dragon-men repel the serpentine invaders? Will the Khthones get to bring moustached slaves back home for their torment? How will Ryan proxy the models he doesn't have yet? How many rules will we get wrong? All this, and more, after the jump!
A small taste of things to come

Review: Mierce Miniatures miscast bags

Some time ago, a number of Mierce's Kickstarter backers started clamoring for Mierce to sell their miscast bits, rather than just throwing them away. Mierce started obliging us this year, and I was fortunate enough to grab a couple from their initial run. After the jump, check out what I got out of the first batch, and whether or not I'd buy each one again!

Model Showcase: Skrag, Incarnate of the Great Maw

In this post, Ryan takes a gorgeously hideous Kromlech model, reviews it, then sculpts some extra bits on it and paints it up to create a unique Skrag the Slaughterer: Incarnate of the Great Maw.
Making this... ... from this.

Some musings on the Death of Warhammer

In this post, I take a break from my typical painted model pictures to offer a bit of musing on Age of Sigmar, the Indy GT scene, and the future of competitive fantasy wargaming in the US.

Tournament Recap: Alamo Paint contest

One of my favorite parts of being a TO is getting to add events that I want to see on the Grand Tournament scene. The first one I've been able to add has been individual painting contests. For the past three years at the Alamo, Mierce Miniatures has sent me prize support that we use to run a paint contest. We run three categories: Best Unit (5+ models, any size), Best Small Model (any model on a 50x50mm base or smaller), and Best Large Model (any model on larger than a 50x50mm base or with the Large Target rule). In addition, we award a Best in Show to the best entry among the three categories.
In addition, Alamo is restrictive about awards and tries to spread the love around; if a player submits a model from his army and that army wins a Best Painted award, his model is excluded from these awards. Judging this paint contest is one of the best parts of my job as TO.
All the entries, after the jump!

Every Mierce Kickstarter Model Ever

AS OF 8/21/15, THIS POST IS NO LONGER BEING KEPT UP TO DATE!

I have relocated this information to a Page, rather than a blog post, because it's a lot easier to maintain.

CLICK HERE FOR THE MOST CURRENT UPDATE!

Someone on one of the Mierce Kickstarter comment pages requested that someone make a single page that has all the sculpts that have been funded in Kickstarter. Since I did something similar for Darklands: First Edition, and have been keeping track of a lot of this data anyway, I figured I'd take a shot at it!

This post contains (to the best of my knowledge) all the miniatures that Mierce has funded through their Kickstarters. It contains information on more than 500 models (as of May 2015), everything they've funded through Kickstarter since they switched to the Kickstart business model. Since there is just a staggering amount of data on here; please be understanding in the next few weeks as I propogate images and data into it, and let me know if I've missed anything.

This post was last changed on August 21st, reflecting the August 21st updates.

Angedern and Daarkan - Demon Prince/Giant and Chaos Lord

Two posts in consecutive days? This is getting out of hand! Below the cut, I paint Angedern, the Prifdyndraig from Mierce Miniatures, and throw in an infantry model just for good measure.

Mag Ap Mag, counts-as Chaos Spawn

Howdy! Here's a WIP thread of another Mierce model I worked on a few months ago: Mag Ap Mag, a dynwocor of the Brythoniaid faction. It was a fun sculpt to paint, and I enjoyed knocking it out!
