Tournament Recap: Alamo 2015 paint contest

  As I mentioned earlier, one of my favorite parts of being a TO is getting to add events that I want to see on the Grand Tournament scene. 

  Since 2011, I've hosted an individual painting contest at the Alamo - the only paint contest at a GT in the south. Mierce Miniatures agreed to sponsor the event for the fourth year in a row, and the winners get to take home a wicked trophy as well.

Tournament Recap: Alamo Paint contest

  One of my favorite parts of being a TO is getting to add events that I want to see on the Grand Tournament scene. The first one I've been able to add has been individual painting contests. For the past three years at the Alamo, Mierce Miniatures has sent me prize support that we use to run a paint contest. We run three categories: Best Unit (5+ models, any size), Best Small Model (any model on a 50x50mm base or smaller), and Best Large Model (any model on larger than a 50x50mm base or with the Large Target rule). In addition, we award a Best in Show to the best entry among the three categories.

  In addition, Alamo is restrictive about awards and tries to spread the love around; if a player submits a model from his army and that army wins a Best Painted award, his model is excluded from these awards. Judging this paint contest is one of the best parts of my job as TO.

Alamo Terrain

Why have I been quiet so much lately? Part of it has been exhaustion - I've been doing a lot, and haven't taken the time required to update this blog. Part has been frustration and stress. As a case in point, when I took over TO responsibilities at the Alamo, I decided two things needed to be done: I needed a piece of mysterious terrain to go on every table, and I needed a building to go on every table for one scenario. The Alamo has 38 tables. From the end of Bayou battles until the Alamo, I designed, built, and painted 76 pieces of terrain. Some of them got documented, so I'll share them here!

Texas War Games Con 2014: Armies on Parade

Warhammer US Masters Report

Well, it's been a while since the Masters happened, but because I was so frantically trying to get my army ready for Lone Wolf, I never took the time to share the photos I took from it! Let's correct that now, shall we?

The Lone Wolf GT 2014: Armies on Parade

  I've been oddly quiet for about a month now, for which I apologize. I ran out of time working on my army for Lone Wolf, and the result was four weeks of frantic painting, no sleep, and absolutely no time to take pictures of what I was working on. The Cult of the Dragon made its first appearance at a GT, and finished with Player's Choice and 2nd Best Army (paint) behind Casey Clements's Empire.

  There were a lot of great armies at Lone Wolf, and because a lot of people were nice and left them set up Saturday night, I was able to document the vast majority!
